Methicillin resistant staphylococci associated with bovine mastitis and their zoonotic importance

چکیده
Mastitis is the most common infectious disease among dairy cattle and has been singled out as the most significant cause of economical loss in the dairy industry. Control of mastitis is important because milk may harbor organisms potentially pathogenic to humans [1]. Staphylococci are the bacteria most commonly isolated from subclinical mastitis [2]. However, during recent years, coagulase-negative staphylococci (CONS) have become the most common bovine mastitis isolates in many countries and are regarded as emerging mastitis pathogens [3]. The indiscriminate treatment with antibiotics, without either a technical prescription or identification of the pathogen, can contribute to an increased resistance of these organisms, making the cure of mastitis still more difficult. A study of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) isolated from bovine mastitis for the presence of penicillin and methicillin resistance-encoding genes in the north west of Iran
Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are often associated with bovine mastitis and may be resistant to antimicrobial therapy. The aim of the current study was to investigate the presence of blaZ (responsible for penicillin resistance) and mecA (responsible for methicillin resistance) genes among 108 CoNS belonging to 9 different species isolated from bovine mastitis in seven dairy herds (H1-...
متن کاملPrevalence and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Bacteria from Milkmen and Cows with Clinical Mastitis in and around Kampala, Uganda
BACKGROUND Identification of pathogens associated with bovine mastitis is helpful in treatment and management decisions. However, such data from sub-Saharan Africa is scarce. Here we describe the distribution and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of bacteria from cows with clinical mastitis in Kampala, Uganda. Due to high concern of zoonotic infections, isolates from milkmen are also descri...
متن کاملInteraction of primary mammary bovine epithelial cells with biofilm-forming staphylococci associated with subclinical bovine mastitis
Background: Staphylococci are recognized worldwide as one of the most important etiological agents of bovine mastitis due to their virulence factors such as their ability to penetrate inside mammary epithelial cells and their ability to form biofilm. Aims: The objectives of this study were to establish a model of primary mammary epithelial cells origin...

The study aimed to investigate the phenotypic and genotypic identification of in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility of 21 Staphylococci (10 Staphylococcus aureus and 11 Coagulase Negative Staphylococci) isolated from bovine mastitis to 12 antimicrobial drugs frequently using in veterinary medicine in Algeria. Isolates of staphylococci from bovine mastitis were tested for antibiotics with disc-d...
متن کاملOccurrence and characterization of methicillin-resistant staphylococci from bovine mastitis milk samples in Finland
BACKGROUND Methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MRS) are increasingly being isolated in bovine mastitis. The aim of our study was to evaluate the occurrence of MRS in Finnish mastitis milk samples and characterize the MRS isolates using molecular methods. RESULTS Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) was a rare finding in bovine mastitis in Finland. Only two out of 135 (1.5%) S. aureus isola...
